gawk

gawk is the GNU implementation of awk, the utility to interpret a special-purpose programming language that makes easy handling of simple data-reformatting jobs with just a few lines of code.

Making changes in various text files or extracting data from parts of certain lines while discarding the rest is quite time consuming and inconvenient if the program is written in C or Pascal since these languages take many lines of code. However, the job is easily done with gawk.

curl and libcurl

curl is a command line tool for transferring files using URL syntax. It supports HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, FTPS, DICT, TELNET, LDAP, FILE, and GOPHER, as well as HTTP-post, HTTP-put, cookies, FTP upload, file transfer resume, proxy tunneling etc.
