Quicktime 4 Linux
Quicktime 4 Linux allows reading and writing uncompressed Quicktime movies on Linux. It is intended mainly for creating content and uncompressed movies. The software is used during the production phase of the movies, not the distribution phase. Quicktime 4 Linux provides improvements in color models support, bit depth, accuracy, reliability and codecs without stressing economy.
The features of Quicktime 4 Linux include several front ends to encoders and decoders, which are used by applications directly. A front end is included for the libdv engine. A parallel JPEG engine using libjpeg is implemented with a front end, which uses 2 processors for field based JPEG compression and 1 processor for frame based compression. This front end also supports some common marker operations. A general colorspace converter is implemented for colorspace conversion with nearest neighbor scaling for the large number of non-standard colorspaces.
Quicktime 4 Linux is able to read and write some AVI files. At present the software reads and writes reasonably compatible AVI files less than or greater than 2GB. The AVI mode supports MJPG, DV and some compressed codecs. However, Quicktime 4 Linux doesn’t read any movies that you download from the Internet.
Quicktime 4 Linux is open source and free software. You can download this from the Internet, modify it and distribute it under the terms of GNU General Public License.
